Functionalities
Modernization Tool considers the following functionalities:
- Connection to iSeries platform: Management
for the connection between the client and the iSeries platform where
the Legacy System to analyze is located.
- Specification of the original system: Definition
of the Legacy System’s scope to be analyzed and/or converted, by
means of defining its elements.
- Creation of the Catalog: Determination of
the list containing the objects to convert or analyze.
- Import task: imports from the iSeries all
of the system components to be converted or analyzed.
- Correlation: Management of the correlation
for sources and objects, establishing the correspondence between both
of them. Modernization Tool provides a powerful mechanism of rules adapting
quickly to the features of each system.
- Complete analysis of resources: Checkup for
the presence of the necessary elements of the system.
- Documentation: Automatic complete documentation
of the whole system by means of different levels of information. These
levels can be easily configured. This documentation is generated in HTML
documents. On the other hand, it is possible to export to CSV the information
from specific tables.
- Trees semantic structure: Analysis and construction
of semantic tress in XML of the whole programs of the system.
- Repository: Repository construction containing
all the system information, components and relationships:
- Analysis of the dependences of the components: Precedences,
dependences, cross and cyclic references. This information will be
added to the repository.
- Analysis of the features and structure of each
component: This information will be included in the repository.
- Consultancy for modernization: Evaluation
and measurement, according to standards, of the complexity and effectiveness
of each component. The data used for the metrics are exported to CSV
in order to give the user the chance of re-elaborating and personalizing
them, and being able just like that, of creating his own metrics easily.
- The consultancy reports for Modernization, are structured in the
following three levels:
- Suggested modifications to obtain a higher level of effectiveness
and maintenance.
- Suggested modifications for the system re-written in Java.
- Suggested modifications in order to prepare the automatic conversion
process of the system.
- Unattainable code.
- Components referenced but not used.
