Caravel Modernization Insight

Modernization Insight includes all the functionalities to manage the Legacy System, its analysis and its preparation for the conversion process.

The whole functionality is arranged in the following four categories:

Consultancy for the modernization process
Refactoring/ Reengineering

Modernization Insight carries out an exhaustive analysis of the original system, providing precise information of the main elements that compose the system, such as: libraries, programs and files, and establishing, at last, the relationship among them.

Arranges a global and concise view of the features of the original system, that allows, at the same time, to obtain an starting point for the later conversion process with enough information to carry it out, An easy task due to Modernization Insight and the friendly, intuitive and easy interface it offers.

Modernization Insight is an easy tool that allows, with little effort to get a high degree of control of the software. Due to its great power, it allows the transformation of the system, improving the architecture, deleting potencial defects and contributing effectiveness to the code.

The use of Modernization Insight is helpful in the following choice:

When a system is going to continue working on the original platform: RPG on the AS/400, while seeking a better architecture, lendings and maintenance for its modernization.
In those situations in which it is necessary to prepare the system for its later re-writing in a new language, typically, Java under J2EE standars.
Finally, in those cases in which it is mandatory to prepare the system for its future conversion to Java by means of using the Modernization Converter.

Frequently, these objectives are overlapped, requiring then to fulfill several of them simultaneously. Modernization Insight also provides the most appropriate answer in these kind of situations.

The Information generated during the application analysis is stored either on a relational database, or in files of XML format. These two possibilities allow the user to easily extend and reuse the analysis processes that Modernization Insight provides, by means of using SQL or standard XML analysers.

Modernization Insight includes a standard SQL access that allows to carry out any query. These queries can be personalized. A management mechanism exists which allows to store and re-use them.

The general information proceeded from the sources is stored on the client. On the other hand, the database can be stored either on the client or on the iSeries.
